Ordinary People Doing an Extraordinary Job
for Homeless Youngsters

Just what kind of people would volunteer to take a completely unknown homeless young person into their own homes? Well, last year almost 300 people throughout the UK agreed to do just that, and some 2,000 homeless young people spent the night in the home of a volunteer Nightstop host.

David Harris, from Nightstop UK, says "Nightstop volunteers come from all kinds of backgrounds - couples and singles, large houses and modest houses, young families and retired people. The thing that they have in common is that they really are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job that really can make a difference."

Volunteers in South Holland District

The South Holland District Nightstop Steering Group is made up of local people representing local churches and other groups concerned with the quality of provision for homeless people in the area.

People who volunteer to become Nightstop hosts or telephone co-coordinators will receive training and support, and will be in at the start of an exciting new project for local young people.

We are offering an increasing number of beds, and because we are now expanding our service into a larger area,  we particularly need more hosts to fill the demand. As hosts need to go through the usual CRB (criminal records) checks, this takes some time to arrange. If people need reassurance about any questions they have, one of our hosts is able to make a home visit to chat about hosting.
